Competitive Intelligence

HSU Office for Economic & Community Development is seeking a Cometitive Intelligence Specialist. Click here to download the job description.

Competitive Intelligence research is a critical component of Economic Gardening, an economic development strategy that focuses on investing in the growth of local businesses rather than in industry attraction. While large companies have long benefited from Competitive Intelligence research, it is more recent that small companies are learning its value.

The City of Littleton, Colorado committed to this strategy 18 years ago.  Since then, the number of jobs created doubled and sales tax revenues tripled--- during a time of two major recessions.  The City did not recruit one industry during this period, nor did it offer one cent in incentives or tax rebates.  The key to Littleton, Colorado’s Economic Gardening success has been their QUICK RESPONSE to the information needs of their high-growth businesses by mining information from high-powered databases, search engines, GIS, research software, and other information tools.

Competitive Intelligence research services will provide information on:Competitors and their strategies, Industry trends and forecasts, Market demographics and psychographics (lifestyle information), GIS and social networking, Market size and sales, Market research reports, Potential market niches, Prospective partners and resources, and Marketing lists and leads.
